Events in Manchester this Spring

Last week we had a look at some of the events happening in Leeds throughout March. This week we've taken a look at some of the events coming up in Manchester's calendar.

Manchester's cultural calendar has been incredibly full since the start of the year. With a busy February half term for children, Manchester also celebrated the Chinese New Year in style with a range of activities and workshops.

We've decided to put together a guide of Manchester events and activities for the spring period over March and April.

Aftermath

Where?: John Rylands Library
When?: Ongoing until 29 June, 2014
Event Type: Suitable for all

As part of Manchester's marking of the centenary of the First World War, Aftermath is a celebration of the enduring spirit of humanity and a commemoration, marking the centenary of the start of the war.

The exhibition brings together examples of protest, reflection, invention and memorial as it represents the stories of people across the world throughout history.

The Manchester Irish Festival

Where?: Across Manchester, Albert Square will host the Manchester Irish Festival Market.
When?: 7 – 17 March, 2014 (The St Patrick's Day Parade will be on 16 March)
Event Type: Suitable for all age groups

The Manchester Irish Festival is part of Manchester's St Patrick's Day celebrations. Manchester has a large Irish population and we'll be looking forward to celebrating in Manchester city centre with them. With a fantastic Irish market in Albert Square and the celebratory parade on the 16th March we're looking forward to a green Manchester city centre!

Viva! Spanish & Latin American Film Festival

Where?: Cornerhouse, Manchester

The Viva! Spanish & Latin American Film Festival comes to Cornerhouse, Manchester as the city celebrates the twentieth Spanish and Latin American Film Festival.

A landmark year for the festival see's some of the world's best filmmaking from Argentina, Mexico, Ecuador, Cuba and Peru. With a mixture of debuts and established producers, festival highlights are set to include work from Gabriel Nesci and Roger Cual, for what is set to be a showcase of some of the best Spanish and Latin American film in the world.

Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club ft. Calibro 35 live

Where?: Band on the Wall. 25 Swan Street. The Northern Quarter

Event Type: Adults

The Band on the Wall presents what will be a very popular night with DJ, actor and funkster Craig Charles. Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club ft. Calibro 35 live, kicks off from 9pm and will include original compositions as well as a range of classic tracks.

David Beckham Footballer/Superstar

Where?: Manchester United Museum
When?: Ongoing until August, 2014
Event Type: Suitable for all ages

After signing for Manchester United as a 14 year old schoolboy, David Beckham has become one of the world's biggest brands. Today, the Manchester United Museum celebrates Beckham's career and time at United through a unique exhibition.

With medal and shirt collections, as well as an interactive exhibit area, the exhibition covers all aspects of Beckham's success. Of course, it also includes his hair fashion over the past twenty-two years since his debut for Manchester United back in 1992.

Our Manchester car parks are a short walk from the tram which runs to Old Trafford.

Future City Festival

Where?: The Quays, Salford
When?: 21 March – 26 April, 2014
Event Type: Suitable for all ages

The Salford Quays will welcome four large-scale cutting edge contemporary artworks from the end of March.

The artworks will go beyond the conventions of traditional display as they employ light, sound, web technologies and mapping to aid the exhibition. Future City will include a laser artwork in tribute to Alan Turing as well as work from Thompson and Craighead, Simon Faithful and 2012's British composer of the year Ray Lee, in what is expected to be a fantastic display.

Our Manchester car parks are a short walk from the tram which runs to Media City and the Salford Quays.

Parking for events in and around Manchester

We've several car parks in Manchester city centre within walking of many events and connecting tram and rail links for those travelling towards The Quays and Old Trafford.

We'll be rounding up some of the best events in Manchester over the summer period as things heat up and the city hosts a series of outdoor events.
