EV Charging arrives at CitiPark
CitiPark is proud to announce electric vehicle charging is now available across our car parking network. At our flagship Merrion Centre car park in Leeds, we’re offering customers the chance to use three Tesla Destination charging bays and an impressive 13 universal charging bays, suitable for a wide range of electric vehicles.
Tesla Destination charging points were first installed at the Leeds Dock branch of Citipark this August, with branches in Watford, Manchester, London and Ilford quickly following suit. With more installations planned before the end of the year, we’re all set to have a total of 41 EV charging bays by 2017.
Managing Director of CitiPark Ben Ziff said “Tesla’s Destination Charging programme provides convenient charging at premium destinations around the world exclusively for Tesla owners. Their charging technology can add up to 68 miles of range per hour of charge for visiting Tesla owners. We are proud to be partnered with Tesla and contribute to the pursuit of sustainable transportation.”
The Tesla Destination chargers located at CitiPark locations are completely free to use for Tesla drivers. All locations are visible from Tesla’s on board navigation system. Tesla Motors' goal is to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable transport with a full range of increasingly affordable electric cars.
California-based Tesla designs and manufactures electric vehicles as well as renewable energy storage. Tesla has delivered more than 160,000 electric vehicles to customers worldwide. Destination charging aims to increase the range of charging options for customers on the go, accommodating for daily routines, holidays and business trips.
The requirement for EV charging is growing in the UK. In 2013, around 3500 registered plug in vehicles were on the road, jumping to an estimated 78,000 by October 2016. To meet this demand, the nationwide network of EV charging points has increased to more than 4,200 charging locations, 6,500 charging devices and 11,750 connectors in the past few years.
“More and more customers are starting to use our EV charging bays and the response has been overwhelmingly positive,” Ben continued. “We definitely see EV as the future. It’s the next logical step towards a cleaner global environment, and we couldn’t be prouder to play our part.”
According to nextgreencar.com it’s estimated there will be 250,000 plugin vehicles registered in the UK by 2020. In addition to electric vehicle charging, we use other green technologies across our car parks, including energy efficient LED lights and the largest city centre array of solar panels in the country.
