May Day at Cassiobury Park

Watford's Cassiobury Park Has A Lot To Offer This May Day

May Day is fast approaching and there’s no better way to spend it than with a relaxing, sunny day out in the park.

Cassiobury Park is one of Watford’s most popular and largest attractions, with 800,000 visitors a year and over 190 acres of green space, woodland and countryside. The park has a wide variety of attractions ranging from activities for children to sports facilities, local wildlife, nature reserves and a number of popular sporting and entertainment events.

Children

Children are spoilt for choice at Cassiobury Park. There’s plenty of space for kite flying, ball kicking and general running around. Add to this two playgrounds boasting numerous climbing frames, swings and slides, a maze and even a trampoline and zip wire! There are also three (yes three) different sized paddling pools for the kids to splash around in and even a miniature railway! The railway only costs £1 per person and all of the other activities are free. So why not pull the kids away from their Xboxes and liven them up with some country air and fun-packed exercise. All aboard!

Sports

If you’re looking towards the summer and wanting to spend your bank holiday working on that summer body, there are plenty of facilities in the park to help you reach your goals. Grab your friends for some five-a-side on one of five impressive football pitches, all of which have goals during season. Is football not your game? Not to worry, as there are also two tennis courts and a basketball court, where you can practice your surfs and three point shots. If you’re looking for some slower paced sporting facilities, check out one of the three croquet courts, go fishing on the River Gade (license needed) or play a game of bowls at the Watford Bowls Club.

Wildlife

West of the River Gade is a designated Local Nature Reserve, with parkland, grassland and areas of open water including the Grand Union Canal, a number of ponds and of course, the River Gade. The reserve is home to a range of wonderful animals including birds, fish, butterflies, dragonflies, newts, snakes and even bats! All of which can be spotted along Cassiobury Park’s nature trail.

Watford 10K Charity Run

This year Watford’s Annual 10K Charity Run falls on May Day Bank Holiday and will be starting and finishing at Cassiobury Park. Organised by Watford Mencap and attracting over 1,000 participants, the race sees runners of all abilities raising money for Watford Mencap’s Children’s Centre. The centre provides school clubs, play schemes, nursery groups, a youth club and toy library for over 150 children with learning disabilities in the Watford and South West Herts area.

With all this on offer there’s really no better place to spend your extra day off than at Cassiobury Park!
