The Grand Depart Leeds: What You Need To Know

With only a few weeks to go until The Grand Depart in Leeds as part of Le Tour de France, excitement is at an all time high. Here are a few things that you need to know going on around the big day:

Embrace and Kimberley Walsh to lead Grand Depart arena ceremony

July 3rd sees the opening ceremony of the Tour de France Grand Depart in Leeds at the First Direct Arena. Produced by Martin Green who was Head of Ceremonies at the London 2012 Olympics, and with defending champion Chris Froome and sprinter Mark Cavendish attending, the event is sure to be a night to remember.

This week, the organisers announced a spectacular bill of live music at the event. Leeds-based band Embrace will be headlining the event performing tracks from their firmly established back catalogue. Also performing at the event will be former Girls Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh and York singer songwriter Alistair Griffin. Exciting stuff!

Leeds city centre roads to close for 15 hours during Tour de France

If you're planning on attending The Grand Depart then make sure you're prepared. Many of the roads in Leeds city centre will be closed for around 15 hours on the 5th of July. From 00:01 BST on Saturday 5th until 15:00, the route infrastructure will be prepared and removed.

The council have also stated that car parking restrictions over the entire weekend will be in place so using car parks in Leeds city centre should be considered. Why not park at our Clarence Dock multi-storey car park and stroll into the city centre?

Watch The Grand Depart on The Headrow

Planning on watching The Grand Depart from the start in the city centre? The most exciting place to be will be on The Headrow. With capacity for 25,000 fans, it's sure to be an unbelievable atmosphere. There will also be room for another 20,000 on Eastgate, Regent St, and Sheepscar St South.

It's also worth spectating from next to the Art Gallery and Victoria Gardens where the teams will be signing in. We can't wait!
