Leeds International Film Festival Returns For The 28th Year
This November, the Leeds International Film Festival returns to the city for the 28th time on the 5th-20th November. Featuring over 250 screenings across the 16 day festival, if you're a fan of cinema and filmmaking, this is something you don't want to miss out on.
Originally taking place in 1987, the festival is now the largest film festival in England outside of London as it reaches its 28th year. Held across a variety of venues across the city including the Town Hall, Hyde Park Picture House, Everyman, Vue, Belgrave Music Hall, and many more, the festival has proved to be a runaway success every year and is now one of the most anticipated events in the Leeds cultural calendar.
The full programme for the festival was recently announced and features an exciting selection of the best new and classic cinema from all over the globe. With a whole range of comedy, thrillers, drama, documentaries, animation, short film, sci-fi and horror, there's something for everybody. The programme is split into five different strands – Official Selection, Retrospectives, Fanomenon, Cinema Versa, and Short Film City.
This year's event also sees the UK premiere of the critically-acclaimed Birdman in conjunction with The Brighton Film Festival. Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, Birdman tells the story of an actor who found fame portraying an iconic superhero but has struggled to reclaim his past glory. Starring Michael Keaton, the film has become iconic due to his hilarious parody of his former Batman persona.
