First Direct Arena Named As One Of UK's Leading Landmarks
In another exciting honour for Leeds, the First Direct Arena has been recognised as one of the UK's greatest landmarks by the CITB.
Opened in 2013, the First Direct Arena has been a resounding success, attracting some of the biggest names in music and entertainment to the city. Just last week, the arena was home to the opening ceremony of the Tour de France, where it was shown across national and global television. The event was a fantastic achievement for the venue and the country.
Tony Watson, Director of Sales, Marketing and PR for the arena said: “After a night where the world watched us at the opening ceremony of the Tour de France, we're delighted that the experts at the CITB have recognised the first direct arena's iconic design and put us in the top five within the UK.â€
The 13,000 venue was designed in a theatre style so every seat has the perfect view, receiving glowing reviews from attendees. However, it's not just internally that the venue has been recognised thanks to it's innovative design and impressive external lighting. The overall structure has been included on a list of the UK's greatest landmarks amongst the The Gherkin, The Library of Birmingham, The Etihad Stadium, and The Sage Gateshead.
As part of the celebration of these five iconic buildings, the CITB are looking to reward those from the construction industry that helped to bring the arena to reality. Those involved will be invited to an exclusive “Pride of Construction' Awards evening later in the year.
Over the past few years Leeds city centre has continued to grow and become recognised nationally. We can't wait to see what happens next.
